kids say the dandiest things...

First day of teaching pract in grade R a little girl (the host teachers child) comes up to me.  She looks me in my eyes and puts her wee hand on my arm to console me.  She gently and sympathetically says to me, "Now tell me... How was your first day?  Are you tired?"
How sweet and thoughtful children can be.

Another child on another day says to me "My juice is disgusting.  I don't like it and can't drink it"...Thinks for a second or two... "do you want it?"
And I'm thinking to myself...'how generous of you'...

Other children are rather generous.  One child offered me not one of her banana's but two!  Like the three wise men they come bearing gifts (not only on Christmas).  Another child often will come and give me money (which I do not take by the way).  I lovingly convince the children to keep their money and look after it.

Just today a child was not responding to me.  He was misbehaving and I was telling him to move to another desk.  I was not angry at the boy but he gave me a blank look.  Blank looks are ones I know all too well.  So I switched to isiXhosa to accommodate the blank faced learner.  Nope.  Still no response.  About to give up I pick him and his chair up and moved it and him.  Needless to say the class burst into laughter.  I  had to show this class that as a student teacher I am not a push over.
Not sure if I accomplished that but the boy was moved and quieter.

Kids sure do and say the strangest things...
