This movie has left me with many questions about life. Not that is surprising as I always make up a whole bunch of questions regardless of watching a movie (oh and most of the time I never get to one answer, circles I tell you). Ok moving swiftly along Edward Scissorhands...
Ever felt like you have something that sets you apart yet at the same token can be your downfall. Maybe people will envy you for your talent or you will use the very thing that blesses you to hurt yourself or the ones you love?Edward, the main weird character in the movie, had scissor for hands. While he could cut lettuce, hedges and hair very well, these same hands accidentally wouned a few of his loved ones.
Ok so our talents may not affect others so directly but how about you place so much hope, time and effort into something and it may cause short or long term pain on the one's we love. For example a single parent suffers to put her children through school while other kids frolick in calvin klein underwear in the very same playground. While it is unfair to critise the rich I think we ought to once in awhile get in the dust, dirt and take on the burdens of others.
The story of Edward continues as he sacrifices for the ones he loves, however this is to his detriment as he has to lose the one he loves. This story left me sad as I feel that dreams should be dreamt as well as seeing them be met. What is life if we don't use our talents risking that they may hurt others. The success of it is not necessarily determined primarily if no one is hurt but if we did what we were destined to do.
But in the same breath do we need to choose between our calling and being with the ones we love?
Do the "baddies" always win in the end?
But my answer is this:
"Bad things happen. Baddies do sometimes win. Talents can tear people apart. I don't have answers, formula's or simple solutions but I do have one thing and that is hope. Hope regardless of the baddies. Affairs. Scandles. I have hope and for me that is enough."
