"four fingers pointing back"...

Disclaimer: this follows on from yesterdays blogpost on EQ.

"Competent". What does this word make you think about? "Incompetent" makes you think of? If you are South African it might conjure up an image of men or women dressed in a navy uniform. Yes I went there.

Recently my vehicle was stolen and one really needs patience, grace and a good sense of humour when reporting a crime. Firstly and thankfully I had informally assembled a group of three of us to report the crime. On two occasions the navy men put the phone down in my friends ear.

I've noticed a state of apathy among people in public service in the Eastern Cape. I do not mean to point fingers as there are always four pointing back but we have to become part of the solution. We need to be atmosphere changers. I love that term, "atmosphere changers". Oooh shall we say it one more time... Atmosphere changers! Haha. Whoever coined that term thank you! The theory behind that is as we walk around all day we are experiencing different atmospheres. These are not necessarily visible storm clouds or sunshine but with our EQ antena's out we can sense other peoples moods whether it be anger, apathy, sadness etc. In order to be atmosphere changers we need to be aware of other peoples atmospheres/temperature/tempraments and our own. Then make a choice to either succumb to their atmosphere or create our own. As I sit here, in this public coffee shop, talking about atmospheres/temperatures/tempraments I am bitterly cold but there are many other seats and a few even in sun. I could just move and feel happier. Simple. Yes, I've moved now. The same goes with negative people-sometimes you just have to move.

So, about those four fingers. The thumb can remind us to give ourselves a thumbs up when we are creating a happy environment, the middle finger reminds us to not give a f*&@(excuse my language) with negative haters, our ring finger reminds us that we are committed to making this world a better place and the pinky- that life is short! Enjoy it! Its a reminder that yes we are small so remain humble to the grand scheme of things!

Ok, enough of my rambling (thumbs up), Im off to have a changing atmospheres day! (She points into the distance).

love,
Sarah xxxx
