singing 'Sugar, sugar, dumm dumm dum dum dum... you're my candy boy...' Oh wait, wrong song. Lets start that again. Stop. Rewind. Play- 'Sugar man won't you hurry 'cos I'm tired of these scenes'. Talking about sugar I'm trying to cut down on sweetner all together. Yup. You can hold me accountable. I've heard countless times its worse (health wise) for you than sugar. So no sweetner, no sugar only sugar man singing in my ear...
I'm sure you've all heard of Rodiriguez song, 'Sugar man'. One of his songs is titled, 'Sugar man' and he is also named 'Sugar man'. He sure makes music smooth and styling. I feel as though I'm a pro surfer riding a wave when I listen to his music. But behind the smooth music is a mysterious story...
Rodriguez was famous in South Africa. More famous than Elvis was. Although Rodriguez never knew this. Half a million albums of his were sold. He just didn't know. He was so called paid royalties on these but his bank account (if he even had one) never knew either. His daughters never knew he was famous in SA either.
So how did this happen? Well... Rodriguez was living in America. He'd recorded his album in America and someone took an album of his to SA for a friend. His album spread like wild fire. I am very happy to announce the South Africans did pay their dues. They paid royalties. Although the royalties went to someone else.
So most of his life he worked hard, played and sung when he could. He was a construction worker in America with not much (materially) but in SA he was/is iconic/famous/a biiggg deal. Since he has done concerts in SA but most of his money he has given away. He still lives in the same house he lived in when he didn't know he was famous and keeps a humble air about himself.
Blown away!
Please do watch this movie if you want to be blown away by the humble air/wind about Sugar man.
Love,
Inspired
Sarah
