Ok so that's a simple concept. As a christian I sure have heard it before. So I am not coming across here as "holier than thou" because although I've been introduced to this topic before it has been a deep experience for me in the last few weeks and in the past I leaned more to feeling 'unworthy'.
1 Corinthians 6:19 says " Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?". I'm thinking "yeah so I've heard but haven't experienced it to be something too profound. Paul continues in verse 19-20," you are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body".
We are bought with a price, a high price. That truth sure kicks low self esteem out the window.
So I stumbled over this revelation yesterday and had realised how I had been selling myself short and creating heart ache in my life, which brought me to tears. I had a feeling of intolerance to allow myself this kind of pain. At first I felt sorry for myself and felt like a victim (maybe I was in a way). But as soon as I've noted this "selling myself short", I realised that where I do have control I need to take it.
Thing is, we are all bought at a high price. We deserve to be treated with care, consideration and honour and when we aren't being treated as such we have the power to change it. We are temples of God, what we allow into our lives is very important. We should allow people into the gardens of our hearts that will nurture it, anything less will not do.
Maybe the question is not how do others treat you but how do you treat yourself? And ultimately how do u allow others to treat you? Sidenote: You set the standard for how others treat you (although there are exceptions).
Bottom line and concluding, we are important, even called the temple of God.
Questions to consider:
How clean is your temple? Are you looking after your temple? Are you allowing robbers into your temple?
These are questions to get us all thinking before the new year. What are we going to cut out of our lives and what good things are we going to add to our lives?
