We see things as we are...

Good afternoon ladies and gents! or a good morning to you (depending where you are in the world)...

Truth be told: we see things the way we are, not the way they are.

This year I have been working part time at a boutique in East London. The target market is African woman ranging from size32-42 but focussing on the bigger sizes. I have been so hugely aware of how woman see themselves. An large African woman ( size xxxl ) will look in the mirror and be gob smacked at how beautiful she is. She will call friends or even strangers and tell them too how beautiful she looks. This kind of woman is not shy in the least. These woman embrace their curves and will brag about them too. Their enthusiasm is infectious to all those around.

Whereas a white woman ( size s ) will walk in and try on a dress. She will then tell you about her invisible rolls or how it is too tight on her. Meanwhile it looks gorgeous on her seamless figure. She will then ask if she can take a photo to see what her daughter and/or husband thinks. She will come back 1, 2 or 3 times before making the purchase and that is if she does.

The difference between these 2 kinds of woman: the way they see themselves and or beauty. I can imagine the first woman lives her life with a lot more confidence and enjoyment because she notices the good, the beauty, the amazing factor. Whereas the former will look for all the faults, waiting/wanting to find the imperfections/incongruence's. To think that everything must just be and is grande is naviety.

A beautiful prayer says: ' God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.'

There are some things that we need to accept whereas other things we need to change. For the things we need to accept it is important to look at the situation in a positive light for real peace, and the same thing goes for things that we need to change.

In my own life I have been challenged by the thought that focussing on the problem is not going to make the problem go away. The solution is NOT found in the problem but in the solution. Do what you love to combat what you don't like. Ok, lets make this less airy fairy: If you hate that you've bumped your new car thinking about how bad it is is not going to solve the problem. But discussing solutions is going to be a much better usage of my time.

I watched this video the other day, I think you will like it too!

Have a beautiful day you beautiful person!
