Three things I've caught myself saying or doing at a school that hit kids.
Things I should reconsider doing/saying in future:
1. While trying to get boys and girls to co-operate and behave. I say 'The girls on this side of the classroom are being SO WELL BEHAVED. Okay now boys on this side of the classroom see if you can beat the girls on this side of the classroom'.
Maybe I will rethink my sentance structure before I say things.
Unfortunately these boys and girls witness abuse in the home.
2. While writing a short and sweet encouraging note to each kid in my class I used blue stickers (as the face). This could be a reality for some kids. Beaten and bruised at home. They may well know the colour blue all too well :(
3. Colouring blue eyes on pictures. Although the crayon is rather thick and so it may look like someone has punched the figure on the yellow paper.
Funny things that have happened at school:
1. A little girl comes up to me at break time looking exhausted.
girl: Phew! (lets out a sigh) These boys love me. They won't stop chasing me.
me: Well then come stand by me.
girl: ummm...nah. (runs off).
I guess the only way to deal with this at the moment is to enjoy the funny moments and love the kids as much as I can.
Please pray for me.
Pray for strength.
Pray for wisdom and please pray that these dear kids would know the LOVE OF GOD!
Much love,
Sarah
